ARTIS has big questions
(And you probably have some too)
A big launch for a big topic
(Bringing it back down to earth)
Did you know that the oldest zoo in the Netherlands is also home to the country’s oldest museum? Opened in 1855 (before closing from 1947 to 2023), the ARTIS Groote Museum lets us see, feel, hear, and smell how life on our little blue/green planet is connected.
But how could ARTIS bring such a huge topic back down to earth? That’s where Springbok came in.
Making a big topic relatable
(Bringing it back down to earth)
We decided to make the topic more relatable with a tagline: the museum of big questions. This refers to the big questions we all have from time to time, whether that’s wondering about what a tree is thinking about or why our toes aren’t fingers.
To share this updated mission, we started with a new logo, one that encapsulates the vastness of life and its continuity. The double O in Groote Museum is part of its heritage, so we turned it into an icon that captures the museum’s unique theme.
This logo was then used on large posters. Using bold typography and neutral background colours, each poster contained an eye-catching question that enticed visitors to the museum. We also created a launch film, which was shown in cinemas and online, to highlight different questions with illustrations adding a light-hearted touch.
